Roberts Letter to the Argus

Dear Sir/Madame,

The past few months have seen a number of high profile shop break-ins but now a different worrying criminal trend has reared its head in the West Hove area.

Almost nightly, whole rows of cars are being keyed to huge inconvenience and financial cost to residents. It seems to be happening after midnight on the cluster of streets just before Boundary Road. It goes without saying that residents are immensely frustrated about this. I have on each occasion urged those who have reported such incidents to me to tell the police urgently.

A couple of years back, a similar series of crimes took place which saw residents’ car tyres being stabbed and slashed. I recall that it was particularly prevalent just before our new parking scheme went live. Some thought that a single perpetrator with an axe to grind over parking issues may have been responsible.

I have no idea as to the motives of the individual(s) behind the latest cowardly acts but I can confirm to residents that I personally take the matter very seriously. Indeed, I am in touch with the Police & Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, about the issue.

It goes without saying that I support both Katy Bourne and Priti Patel who are increasing police numbers at local and national levels respectively now that the country’s economy is back on track.
